It is not unusual for all of us to be so preoccupied with our own lives that everything around us is sometimes omitted from our thought process. Yesterday as I waited for the start of the Gasparilla 15K, we had a moment of silence for a fellow racer that broke his neck in a mountain bike accident two weeks ago. As we all had a moment of silence, unbeknown to probably a lot of people, Chile had experienced a serious earthquake. It was not until later on in the day that I realized that the Pacific was sweating out a tsunami as a result of Chile's unfortunate event. It makes me realize how interconnected we all are. An action causes a reaction.
It not only puts life into perspective but also causes us to have more awareness to the rest of the world. Life is precious and fragile. All the accomplishments we collect along the way are a great bonus.
My heart goes out to the people in Chile.
